HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2008 SPRING MEETING
(EXCERPTS FROM THE DIRECTORS MEETING
There will be a welcome party on Thursday at the Round Up, starting at approximately 6pm. We will provide free coffee, soft drinks, chili, rolls etc. Anyone wishing to bring a pot of chili is welcome to; we may have a chili cook off competition if there are enough entrants to make it fun!!! (Judged by the attendees) Open to all horse pullers, friends and spectators. Come one come all. There will be a dance on Saturday evening, featuring country music, following the last class of the day. It will be held in the arena. There was some discussion on the gate, and about people getting in without paying. This year we will be more actively addressing that issue. There will be security set up at the entrances to the pulling arena. No one will be allowed admittance to the arena without showing his or her wristbands. There was also some discussion on too many people in the ring during the classes, it was decided that it would require a special wrist band to be in the ring, we will allow 3 bands per team for drivers and helpers, with a 6 band maximum per class. It was also decided that the number of chairs allowed in the ring would be limited to 1 per team. The premiums, gate prices will stay the same. A poll was held with the people that attended the meeting, and it was decided that they generally enjoyed the round up more at the Cheshire Fairgrounds than anywhere else. They also liked the new score clock. We will need to upgrade the sound system this year however. It was also discussed that the camper septic pumping issue is not good and we need a better company. The members voted on slates of classes, they proposed 5 different slates, which were voted on, narrowing the choices down to 2 slates , another vote was taken, at which it was decided that the classes for 2008 would be , 3000, 3100, 3200, 3300, 3400, FFA all 12’. There was one proposed rule change. It would have been an addition to rule #10 , which would have added “3 passes by the load would constitute a hitch” (like the NY rules). A show of hands was taken , 12 votes for the new rule , many more opposed, rule change did not pass. It was voted that we get something special this year for trophies/plaques/prizes, to honor the fact of the 50th anniversary of the association. 2008 nominating committee is Jody Whipple, Tonia Johns, Roger Fuller
