WIMLER, Charles W. Charles W. Wimler, 89, of Guilford Road,
Durham, husband of the late Gladys (Cornall) Wimler died Friday,
(January 19, 2007) at CT Hospice in Branford after a long battle with
cancer. Born in Durham, he was the son of the late William C. and Alice
(Leining) Wimler and had lived in Durham all of his life. He was the
First Selectman of Durham from 1949 to 1971, serving 22 years. He was a
member of the Durham Grange #57 for 65 years, United Churches of Durham,
and an honorary member of the Durham Fair Assoc. He was an active member
of the Eastern Draft Horse Assoc., the CT Draft Horse Assoc. and the New
York State Horse Pullers Assoc. for many years. He was the owner of
Wimler Construction of Durham, which operated in the Durham and
shoreline area for over 60 years. He is survived by a daughter, June
Porter and her husband Richard of Durham; a son Charles Wimler, Jr. and
his wife Mavis of Durham; two brothers, Raymond and Lawrence Wimler both
of Durham; two sisters, Caroline Norton of Durham, Alice Ann Churchill
of Bristol. He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher Wimler. Funeral
services will be held at the United Churches of Durham, Main Street,
Durham on Tuesday, January 23rd at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Elven Riggles,
Jr., minister, will officiate and interment will be in Mica Hill
Cemetery, Durham. Friends may call at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old
Church St., Middletown on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and are invited
