Harrison F. King
1923 - 2005
GRANVILLE - Harrison "Horsie" F. King, 82, a longtime resident here entered into eternal rest on Saturday December 17, 2005 at Noble Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Westfield, September 17, 1923 the son of the late Harrison S. and Frances (Bush) King. "Horsie" retired in 1985 from the City of Springfield Water Department as a maintenance craftsman with over 20 years of service. He worked for many years at the Cobble Mountain Reservoir. Prior to that, "Horsie" was a longtime area mason and was an accomplished home mover, having relocated many homes in the area. An article about his participation in the moving of a covered bridge in Colrain with his oxen was published in Yankee Magazine. "Horsie" was very active in the Massachusetts Ox Teamsters and enjoyed participating in all of the state oxen events with his friends and family. He married, Arlene Barry on June 19, 1946 in Granville and the couple would have celebrated 60 years together. In addition to his loving wife, "Horsie" is survived by his three sons, Sam King of Granville, Barry King of Feeding Hills and Jack King of Granville and spouse, Donna. "Horsie" will always be remembered by his eight loving grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren including his newest great-grandson, William. He also leaves a brother, Roland King of Westfield; a sister, Marjorie Besnia of Granville, many caring nieces and nephews. "Horsie" will be kept in the dear memories of Bonnie King, Joyce King, Joanne Cianferani and Lisa. He will be remembered for his love of his family, devotion to friends, sense of humor and his hard work. "Horsie" was a jokester and had the ability to make you laugh and feel welcomed. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 21 at the Granville Federated Church, Granby Road, Granville. The burial will take place in the spring at Silver Street Cemetery in Granville. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Granville Ambulance Fund, c/o Town Hall, PO Box 247, Granville, MA 01034. Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
