David "Hummer" Lewis

 

DAVID BERIAH LEWIS

David Beriah "Hummer" Lewis, 43, beloved husband of Janet (McCaw) Lewis of Boom Bridge Road, North Stonington, died Feb. 7, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

 

 

He was born in Westerly, son of Rosalind (Murray) Lewis of North Stonington, and the late David Babcock Lewis.

He was co-owner and co-operator of the Beriah Lewis Farm. A member of the New England Ox and Horse Association, he had enjoyed pulling oxen with his family for many years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Central Connecticut Farmers Coop. He was a dedicated and hard-working man, and after a long hard day of working on the family farm, he enjoyed going home and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, David J. Lewis; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Lewis and Catherine E. Lewis; and two brothers, Harry Babcock "Ted" Lewis and Ledyard Edward Lewis, all of North Stonington; two sisters, Almyra Anne Gaylord of Rensselaer Falls, N.Y., and Kathleen Murray Smith of Lebanon, Conn.; and several nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the family farm on Boom Bridge Road. Interment will. be in the family cemetery.
