TRIBUTE TO MICKEY PENDLETON
On, April 23, 2004, we lost our "Best Friend" of many years, Mickey Pendleton. Mickey was not just a friend he was a brother, father and grandfather to heart to the Steger Family in New York. He was a long time member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association. He competed in many contests all over the New England States. Mickey always enjoyed the pulls, but Preston City was his favorite one.
His chief supporter and love of his life was his wife of 50 plus years, Prudy. They were always side by side in all they did. He was always out there cutting logs, working and helping the family at any time during the day whether it was peddling milk from Wildowsky's Dairy or just lending a hand during the hay season.
Mickey had a strong passion for his pulling horses. He did not just use them in contest he logged as well with them. Mickey's horse barns were well kept. He would enter the barn in the morning and the boys (horses) would be saying hello to him first. At the end of a long hard days work Mickey would always get the night time visitors and he always had time to chat while sitting on the stoup even while enjoying some watermelon with his guests. Oh, and we cannot forget the baseball and football season. He enjoyed a good Red Sox game on the radio while eating his night time snack or watching the New England Patriots after dinner on TV. He definitely turned us New Yorkers into Boston Fans.
We will miss Mickey so much, but we are so Proud and Happy to have had the Memories and Friendship we did with him for so many years. "Memories Are Forever And You Will Never Be Forgotten."
